Profusely illustrated with 49 full-page steel-engraved plates, including additional title pages and frontispiece engravings, numerous intertextual wood engravings. Publisher's full brown morocco over heavy boards, gilt lettering and decoration on spine and cover, spines in five compartments separated by raised bands, a.e.g., gilt dentelle turn-ins, marbled endpapers (few tiny marred areas to covers near corners or edges, corners bumped). A very handsome set. “One of the great books of American illustrations... The best landscapes engraved in this country are to be found here” [Hamilton, 216].
