Electro-mechanical automaton depicting a nearly life-size black butler or porter, whose head moves side to side and right arm makes a sweeping motion toward the tray held in the left hand. Painted plaster-composition head and hands, glass eyes, fleeced wool hair and eyebrows, wool costume and hat, leather shoes. Short attachment to right hand likely allowed items such as cards or advertising to be taken from the tray and handed out. Height 55”. Working. Video available on request.
