WALTER, Bruno (1876–1962). A Small Archive of Bruno Walter Correspondence and Ephemera to a Chicago Audiophile. Including 3 typed letters signed by Bruno addressed to a Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Flocken (1954–56) with original mailers; an ALS from Linton Flocken addressed to “Dr. Walter” (Jan. 27, 1956); several handbills; snapshot photographs; a broadside letter addressed to the members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; two oversized glossy photographs of Walter (each 10 x 8”); and over 100 newspaper and magazine clippings related to Walter. Provenance: from the estate of L.H. Flocken. Flocken was a well-known audio recorder among musicians in the 1940s, recording performances by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as well ones at the University of Chicago and at Northwestern University for over 40 years. After Bruno Walter’s return to the United States in 1939, he began to work with several orchestras including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra which is when Flocken would send his recordings after a performance to Walter.
