First edition, first printing, first issue with the word “Boofy” present on page 134, 8 lines up; contents page with chapter XV starting on p. 144 (two pages behind what it actually is) along with all the other chapters that follow it. Publisher’s black cloth, front board stamped in silver with baguette-cut diamond device and blind-stamped with repeating diamond pattern, spine lettered in silver with publisher’s device in silver at foot, original first issue dust jacket with correct price “12s. 6d. net” on lower front flap; rear flap with quote by Raymond Chandler “besides Casino Royale, Mr. Fleming has also written” and lists 5 reviews for Live and Let Die and 7 reviews for Moonraker; and the rear panel does not state the artist’s name for the front cover art. 8vo. Extremities lightly rubbed, rear panel toned with faint ring stain, flaps sunned at edges, slight shelf lean, spotting to fore edges; a near fine copy. Gilbert A4a (1.1). The fourth James Bond novel.
