Publisher’s black cloth, central heart-shaped device stamped in red on front board, spine lettered in red with publisher’s device in red at foot. Original first issue dust jacket lacking the overprinted Sunday Times review on front flap, unclipped. Housed in a matching custom cloth clamshell case, stamped in gilt and with red heart shaped morocco inlays. 8vo. Spine ends and corners a little chipped, two small closed tears to rear panel edge; also lightly toned and foxed, flaps sunned at top edges, few faint pale spots to covers, gentle rubbing to spine, endpapers foxed with booksellers’ ticket on front endpaper; still an attractive copy. Rare. Gilbert A1a (1.1). First edition with first issue dust jacket of the first novel in Ian Fleming’s James Bond series. This being one of 4,728 copies printed, the majority of which went to public libraries.
