JOHNSON, George (1877- 1962). Pin Tray from the Magic Wand Publishing Office. Porcelain tray with shallow lip used to hold pins or paperclips. 4 x 3 ½ x ½". Soiling and wear from use. With a typed note pasted underneath the tray that states, “This pin-tray lay on the editorial desk of George Johnson publisher and Editor of the Magic Wand for so many years. It was given to me by his widow and I in turn pass it on to Eddie Dawes. [Signed] Jimmy Findlay." Sold with a 1943 - 44 Inner Magic Circle membership card for Johnson.Johnson edited The Magic Wand for 41 of its 47-year lifespan. Many magicians consider it the British equivalent of The Sphinx. The Magic Wand publishing office also issued many influential books on conjuring over the course of its existence.
