Mlle. Clifford Sword Swallower Cabinet Card. London, ca. 1905. The verso bears a pencil inscription reading “compliments from Mlle. Clifford from London, England.” Water stains to mount not affecting image. Clifford billed herself as “Champion Sword Swallower of the World.” She began swallowing swords at age 13, after learning how from sword swallower Delno Fritz. Her greatest successes were in Europe.
