Mahphoon The Burmese Hairy Woman. Great Britain, 1880s. Photograph of this famous sideshow attraction. Pencil notes on verso in French. Very good. Mahphoon, as part of the “Sacred Family of Burma,” was exhibited by P. T. Barnum in England for one season, and for a short tour in the United States in 1888. She was one of five generations of her family that suffered from hypertrichosis.
