Majolica Snail Inkwell. French or British, ca. 1860s. Majolica ink receptacle and stand, with brass fittings. Unmarked, but likely by the Parisian maker, JL Bascule. Container modeled in the shape of a snail’s shell, rotating on a brass mount, with a quill rest at top. Some wear to gilding around mouth.
