Double-sided letterpress broadside for the January 5, 1880 opening night gift show of the Fakir of Ava, advertising the many presents he will distribute to those in attendance on the recto, and describing his elaborate magic show on the verso. 28 ¾ x 6 ¾”. Center split repaired with archival tape, minor folds and chips. Hughes took on a young assistant who would later go on to surpass his own fame as a magician. That boy’s name was Heinrich Keller. He grew up to be the most famous magician in America, Harry Kellar.
