Edwin Brush / Richard the Wizard Trunk of Magic Props. An early twentieth century metal-bound trunk (16 x 30 x 13 ½”) containing assorted magic props and accessories from the show of Chautauqua and Lyceum magician Edwin Brush, and other items added by Richard McKinney (“Richard the Wizard”), who received the trunk from Brush. Contents include a costume, comprised of a heavy khaki jumpsuit, overcoat (embroidered with the name “Brush” on the chest), hood, and belts; two livestock production bags; locking rabbit trap for a table; black tabletop with servante; scimitar by E.C. Atkins (21” long); a wooden skull which screws into a circular base (unknown use) to hold a wand; gimmicked chrome and metal tubes and candlesticks; trick popcorn bag; metal tray; shot glasses; light bulb for Canary in Lightbulb; food coloring; and miscellaneous hardware, wire, and other accessories, some in old paper bags annotated by Brush. Includes a luggage tag and mailing envelope suggesting the trunk was sent to McKinney directly from Brush about 1957. Two labels bearing McKinney’s address on the trunk lid.
