1877 Chicago White Stockings “Our Boys” National League Champions Issue. New York: Norman L. Munro, 1877. Original printing of the July 19, 1877 issue of the juvenile publication “Our Boys”, the front cover bearing a finely engraved composite portrait of the Chicago White Stockings, winners of the National League pennant in its inaugural year, and depicting nine players, clockwise from top: McVey, Barnes, Bradley, Waitt, Hines, Peters, Anson, and Glenn, with Spalding at center. Complete issue, broadsheet (20 x 14”), uncut. Overall nicely preserved with a strong, deep impression of the engraving, unrestored, some splitting and darkening along the old folds. Contents include profiles of the players, an ad for the “Our Boys” Baseball Rules of 1877, and other baseball content. Together with nine other 1877 issues of “Our Boys”, one other of which features a baseball cover, in about similar condition, some also with advertisements and stories on baseball. A rare and early Chicago baseball item.
