[Dai Vernon] Ross, F.W. A Prospectus of the Dai W. Vernon Super Card Subtleties. [Wichita, 1932]. Mimeographed typewritten prospectus for the famous Vernon Twenty Dollar Manuscript, issued in anticipation of the manuscript’s publication. Four legal pages, with old folds from mailing, else very good. Rare. Vernon’s famous manuscript was issued in extremely limited numbers. Perhaps two dozen were printed and sold by Ross and Vernon. The work was later anthologized (along with Vernon’s three-dollar manuscript) in Early Vernon, published by Magic, Inc. in 1962. Prospectuses such as the example offered here were mailed to potential buyers of what was, in the midst of the Great Depression, and extraordinarily expensive manuscript of card tricks. Amazingly, the plan worked well, as the initial twelve copies sold rapidly. These prospectuses are nearly as scarce as the manuscripts themselves, and describe in minute detail – with only tantalizing hints regarding the methodology behind them – ten “super” tricks and techniques of Vernon’s several of which are modern day classics of the art.
