[Photographs] Massive Accumulation of Approximately 600 Photographs of Magicians, some signed. 1930s – 70s. Made up of studio publicity photographs, performance photographs, and candid snapshots of magicians, mostly American, in a variety of scenes and settings. Among the performers pictured are – to name but a scant few – Ron Wilson, Dorny, Jimmy Trimble, Mark Wilson, Sid Lorraine, Jody Baran, Barclay Shaw, Frances and Jay Marshall, Al Flosso, Marshall Brodien, Senator Crandall, Jack Gwynne, Gene Anderson, Ali Bongo, the Maginis, Doug Anderson, Romaine, Virgil & Julie, Richiardi Jr., Andy Dallas, Geoffrey Buckingham, and perhaps hundreds more. Several images depict magic shops, groups at conventions, instructional pictures outlining the working of various tricks, or individual magic tricks manufactured by Tony Anverdi of Holland. Other pictures show social gatherings of magicians and their families. Roughly one-half of the group is made of candid photos, the other half larger studio photos of professionally shot and developed candid images at lectures and other events. Several larger studio portraits inscribed and signed by the subjects. The largest 8 x 10”. Most in good condition, with scattered numbers bearing expected age from wear and with remnants of mounting to versos.
