Cone and Orange Trick. Boston: W.D. LeRoy, ca. 1917. A transposition between a turned wooden “skittle” (the cone), and a small orange; the two objects change places as if by magic. Skittle height 5 ½”; base diameter 2 5/8”. With the necessary specially-prepared cloth for the vanish of the skittle, and four pages of handwritten instructions by W.D. LeRoy. More elaborate versions of this once-popular effect (a favorite of no less than Alexander Herrmann and Harry Willard, among others), were standard fare in magic catalogs of the early twentieth century. On the last page of the handwritten instructions is the following note, in the hand of Dr. John Henry Grossman, noted collector and historian: “Sent to Milton Bradley April 2nd 1917 by W.D. LeRoy Boston Magic Dealer. See his letter – LeRoy Catalog. JHG.”
Cone and Orange Trick. W.D. LeRoy.
