Wickey, Harry (1892—1968). Group of Early Sketches, Drawings and Various. 1915-1920. Charcoal and pencil. As a young man Harry Wickey was drafted into the United States Army and served in the American Expeditionary Forces during WWI in France. These drawings and sketches precede his recognition as a master etcher and sculptor and foretell his artistic abilities. They are reminiscent of works by Daumier. Soldiers at the front, and various head and rural studies are represented in this small archive of nine pieces. Largest 11 x 8 1/2”. Together with two numbered and signed original etchings, photographs of wrestler sculpture with Wickey’s pen notations, and various publications in which his work was published, including his autobiography and various photographs of artist.
