Escape Coffin. German, ca. 1920. Finely constructed pine coffin/crate in which the magician or his assistant is securely locked, then later escapes despite the hasps being secured by ungimmicked locks that can be provided by a member of the audience. Finely finished with carved molding painted black, and accented with gilt and silver paint. The front panel decorated with a medallion bearing the initials, “CR.” Height 43”. Wear from age and use as expected, gimmick a bit loose, but overall very good condition.
