The Carl Hagenbeck Trained Animal Co. Newport, KY: Donaldson Litho, ca. 1900s. Vibrant color lithograph portrait poster of Carl Hagenbeck, flanked by a lion and tiger. 28 x 21”. Linen backed. Repaired closed tears and slight losses in margin, a few extending into image, restored staining in margins, but bright and vivid overall. B+. This poster probably dates within a few years of Hagenbeck’s merger with Benjamin Wallace, forming the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus. Combined, the circus rivaled Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey as largest in America in the early 20th century, though Hagenbeck died in 1913.
