Fleming, Ian. You Asked For It. New York: Popular Library, [1955]. First Popular Library edition. Original pictorial printed wraps, all edges dyed green. 12mo. Few edge creasing to covers and interior toned, as usual; light fingering to rear wrapper; a tight copy. After Fleming’s disappointing release of ‘Casino Royale’, the author was approached by American Popular Library to have ‘Casino Royale’ released as a paperback under the name ‘You Asked For It.’ Short on cash, Fleming was told by the publisher that the Americans would not know how to pronounce “Royale” and to much of the authors chagrin, Fleming and the US publishers decided to go ahead with new title, paying Fleming a small sum of $2,625 (approx. $25,000 today).
