Finely bound in a later full green morocco by V.R. Stoakley of Cambridge with original pictorial cover and spine laid down and bound at rear, raised bands, compartments titled in gilt, a.e.g., marbled endpapers. Frontispiece + 15 plates illustrated by Sidney Paget. Small 8vo. [viii], 358pp., [359], [1 blank]. A very attractive copy of the third installment of four crime novels written by Doyle that feature the detective, Sherlock Holmes. It was originally serialized in ‘The Strand’ magazine in 1901.
