Inscribed on the ffep: “Mrs. Butts/from/the/Editor”. Original cloth-backed boards, printed paper spine label (reserve label tipped-in at rear). Illustrated with 22 monochrome etchings by William Blake on India paper and mounted, with tissue guards. 8vo. Front cover unevenly sunned, spine slightly darkened, endpapers foxed, occasional spotting at margins. The recipient of the inscription is to a member of the Butts family who through Thomas Butts, was an early collector and purchaser of William Blake’s works which was the largest Blake collection ever formed. The collection was auctioned off starting in 1852 but the family remained major holders of Blake up until the late 20th century.
