Presented to Cruikshank by the author with the gift inscription (possibly in Cruikshank’s hand) on the ffep: “Presented by/Capt. Marryat/for/George Cruikshank” with a small sketch of Marryat by Cruikshank just above the inscription. Each title-page is signed and dated (“1842”) by George Cruikshank. Publisher’s drab boards professionally re-backed in cloth, housed in a double custom cloth slipcase with felt lining and quarter maroon leather with raised bands and gilt titling in compartments. 8vo. Boards gently rubbed with few stains, armorial bookplate in each volume and an original signed etching bookplate to the rear endpaper in Vol. I.
