A Collection of Celebrated Songs and Cantatas by the most approv’d Masters curiously engraved with the Thorough Bass for the Harpsicord and Transposition for the German Flute. London: Henry Roberts, 1758/62. 3 volume set + the rare 4th volume published by Welcker in 1775 who reissued this set and added the fourth volume with the addition of the violin making the set more diversified. Vol. I, III, and IV first editions, vol. II second edition. Uniformly bound in mottled calf by Morrell in London, raised bands with gilt rolls, compartments with gilt centerpieces and cornerpieces, two morocco spine labels titled in gilt, gilt filet fore edges, elaborate gilt dentelle turn-ins, a.e.g. Engravings throughout comprising of allegorical frontispieces and 200 plates of music, each with pictorial headpieces in vols. I-III; vol. IIII (IV) with 112 plates of music + the rare engraved trifold broadside “catalogue” for Welcker’s music bound at the rear. 8vos. Covers detached (present) or starting, spines gently worn with some deterioration, scant marginal toning or foxing, booksellers’ ticket of Simmons & Waters in vol. I. Rare. OCLC 54138150. The fourth volume is almost never seen at auction and neither is the accompanying broadside, locating only one example and that being in the Yale University Library.
