[Houdini, Harry (Ehrich Weisz)] Notebook of Secrets from Houdini’s Collection, Signed. Circa 1908. A notebook filled with notes, diagrams, and descriptions of magic tricks and apparatus in two different hands, authors unknown. The contents include unusual drawings of trick cigar boxes, vest holdouts, card vanishers, and other assorted apparatus, as well as lists of card sleights to be practiced, wine and water formulas, and references to works by Hoffmann, as well as the tricks of de Kolta, Devant, and others. Approximately 50 leaves with text or drawings. Paper label on front board bears an illustration of a handkerchief “spider” gimmick with the letter “K” at its center. The first leaf bearing the signature and notation of Harry Houdini: “Harry Houdini, Bot [sic] of Stammer, 4th Av., New York City, June 14/23.” Binding loose, wear at edges, boards chipping and wormed.
Clarification: This notebook is signed on the front blank by Houdini, but the manuscript and its contents are not attributed to him.
