Waring, Peter. Archive of Ephemera Related to Magician Peter Waring. Including his letter of resignation addressed to Francis White of The Magic Circle; a small cache of letters address to White regarding Waring’s delinquency in repaying the loans of fellow magicians and his personal bankruptcy; letters regarding his death from other magicians, two news clippings; a program featuring Waring as a “new radio personality,” and the draft of a short biography outlining both Waring’s successes as an entertainer, and his tragic suicide. 1940s. Generally good condition. An engaging radio comedian, magician, and master of ceremonies, Waring is unfortunately best remembered for his suicide by hanging in his prison cell. Sentenced to nine months in prison on a variety of charges, he took his own life just one day after the sentence was handed down, prompting questions in British parliament as to how he managed the feat. Waring had lived something of a double life, as the biographical data in this archive reveals, and lived much of his post-war life running from debt collectors both private and public.
