Photograph of Dr. Waldo the Human Ostrich. Glossy modern Kodak print of Waldo producing a regurgitated white rat. 10 x 8”. Owned by Johnny Thompson. Waldo was a dwarf who worked at Chicago’s Riverview Park amusement park. A favorite story of Thompson’s was recalling Waldo’s act, in which he regurgitated the white rat along with spectators’ loose change, watches, and plastic rings. Regurgitating the little valuables along with the rat was Waldo’s unsubtle way of asking for a little extra in tips.
