Street scene depicting balancing acts, including jugglers and acrobats standing or sitting balanced on long bamboo poles, and the Indian Rope Trick and Basket Trick, with body parts raining down from the sky, a ball of rope being thrown toward the heavens, and swords being thrust through a large baskets on the ground. Framed to 13 x 17”. Old gallery label to reverse. Uncommon. While a conflated view of the street performances the Englishman Edward Melton saw on his visits to the far east, this image is, nevertheless, an important and early depiction of the fabled Indian Rope Trick. . .263.
