Decapitated “Salome” Head of John the Baptist Papier-Mache Prop. Circa 1950s. Expertly executed papier-mache male head with horse-hair wig, articulated eyelids, painted in greenish hues with a bloody neck. A knot of strings attached to the head allows the performer to hold up the head and with the other hand control a lever opening and closing the eyes. 13 x 7 x 10 ½”. Glass eyes shattered, else very good. With an old hard-shell traveling case, bearing an old piece of tape with the notation “Salome head.”This was owned and most probably made by magician Roy Benson. Benson built the monster for the early gore film The Flesh Eaters (1964), directed by his cousin Jack Curtis.
