Eighth American Edition which includes the appendix on the murder of Logan the Orator’s family. Folding table of Indian tribes, a sketch of Madison’s Cave, an intertextual woodcut map of the Ohio River near Philadelphia in appendix, several tables including a 5pp. table of “Birds of Virginia” (lacking frontispiece portrait and folding map). Contemporary full calf (front board detached but present), compartments ruled in gilt, red morocco spine label titled in gilt (boards rubbed, rear hinge weak with slight separation, spine dry with chipping at ends, offsetting to title, spotting throughout). Howes J78. Early American edition of Jefferson’s most important book, considered to be one of America’s first permanent literary and intellectual landmarks.
