Foldout map of Michigan (few inked fingerprints at margins) affixed opposite of title, printed on rice paper, titled “The Tourist’s Pocket Map of Michigan”, published by S. Augusts Mitchell. Publisher’s brown cloth decorated and ruled in blind, spine titled in gilt with a bundle of wheat device in gilt (ends worn, text block showing at crown, pale spotting to boards, foxed endpapers with newspaper clippings including a lengthy obituary from the 1896 Detroit Free Press highlighting the life of George Wallace Jones; a prominent Midwestern frontiersman, delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives from Michigan Territory, and Senator of Iowa armorial). AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE TITLE WITH A VERY ATTRACTIVE MAP OF EARLY MICHIGAN WITH MAJORITY OF THE STATE STILL UNSURVEYED AND MAINLY WITH INDIAN OCCUPATION.
