[TRAVEL–CHINA] A Typed Manuscript Travelogue to China by way of the Tran-Siberian Railway. 1913/1924. 4to. Text in French, typewritten on purple mimeo sheets (watermarked OPACA Bond), describing several Frenchmen and their trip to Eastern Russia to board the Tran-Siberian railway to China. Main title “Histoire de Brigands: 1913–1916–1924” (with chop) and four separate sections bound into one, each with its own pagination and illustrations. Section titles and their contents include: “Histoire de Brigands 1913” (44 pp. +A–E pp. including mounted photos, a hand-drawn map of Volga and a handwritten itinerary for Moscow, and many photos mostly of China including several beheadings); “Excursion to Hsiling 7–8 Oct 1916” (7 pp. text + A–D pp. including 23 photos by Jean Crépin); “Annette & Rita in China Late April 1924” (90 pp. including 32 pp. text followed by a profusion of snapshots (approx. 180) of Chinese and Westerners, architecture, tradesmen, and antiquities); and “French Concession of Tientsin/Note of the Cruise 1924” (33pp. including 13 photos and several hand drawn maps). Each section consists of post cards, snapshots, maps, and real photos mounted with photo corners and numerous annotations or captions. Original full calf, spine titled in gilt (compartments chipped or dried), marbled endpapers.
