Profusely illustrated with 69 foldout maps including two foldout maps of North America, 155 engravings (occasional spotting) including several plates consisting of Native American tribes and images of California. Contemporary calf ruled in gilt with alternating palmette border tooled in blind within, raised bands, two compartments titled in gilt, remainder with crossed arrow centerpieces in blind, turn-ins ruled in gilt, a.e.m., marbled endpapers (front board to vol. 1 detached but present, hinges rubbed, spines slightly dried with few volumes chipped at or near ends; contents tight).
