WITH THE DOUBLE-PAGE PLATE OF THE BISON, usually lacking. Numerous engraved headpieces, tailpieces, and initials. Contemporary red morocco, elaborately paneled in gilt, covers with mitered frames composed of gilt rules, decorative rolls, and floral sprays, raised bands, spine intricately gilt in compartments with scrolling corner pieces, tooled with solar crosses, acorns, and flowers, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers (outer joints and ends rubbed, few small spots of marring to covers, scant spotting to plates or text, bookplate of the 3rd Earl of Roden (Robert Jocelyn); an attractive and clean copy). “THE MOST SUMPTUOUS CLASSICAL WORK WHICH THIS COUNTRY HAS PRODUCED” (Lowndes).
