Imagines Veteris ac Novi Testamenti a Raphaele Sanctio Vrbinate in Vaticani Palatii Xystis… Romae, 1674 [i.e. 1675]. Oblong folio (355 x 457 mm). FIRST EDITION. 55 engraved plates including the dedication title to Queen Christina of Sweden, dedication leaf to Raphael, and an allegorical frontispiece. 52 of these engravings reproduced Raphael’s paintings and were executed by Italian artists, Fantetti and Aquila (plates toned at outer margins, few tiny wormholes to margins of plates 51 and 52, otherwise clean). Bound but lacking covers and backstrip; blank leaves retained. A COMPLETE SUITE RARELY SEEN AT AUCTION. OCLC 272426355. Pietro Aquila and Cesare Fantetti etched a suite of 52 engravings after the celebrated frescoes painted by Raphael's workshop in the Vatican Logge that were for centuries more celebrated than Michelangelo’s work in the Sistine Chapel.
