MENCKEN, H.L. (1880–1956). H.L. Mencken Type Letter Signed. Dated September 19th, 1925. One-page typed letter signed in ink (7 ½ x 5”) by Mencken and affixed to the front pastedown of “H.L. Mencken” by Ernest Boyd (New York: Robert M. McBride, 1925; publisher’s black buckram), typed on The American Mercury Magazine letterhead in which Menken was founder and chief editor. The letter is typed to a Mr. Eggleston: “Thanks for the Banner [underlined]. A superb example of sterling American journalism! Unluckily, I have no copy of “Lydia Pinkham”. But I hear various reports of projected collections of such songs. The editorials are resumed in the October issue. Sincerely yours,” signed “H.L. Mencken”. Light cockling to typed area, old mailing folds, light fading to signature.
