Both volumes uniformly bound in period full olive straight grain morocco, framed in gilt and in decorative blind tooling, raised bands rolled in gilt, elaborate gilt and blind scrollwork in compartments, dentelle turn-ins, all edges gilt concealing a DOUBLE FORE EDGE PAINTING TO BOTH VOLUMES with scenes containing views of Newark Castle, Southwark Bridge, The British Museum (ca. 1820s) and Newstead Abbey (Byron’s family seat). Faint rubbing to joints, pale spotting to end leaves and occasionally to margins. Provenance: From the library of a local Chicago collector, part one.
