BERNSTEIN, Leonard (1918–1990), composer. New York City Symphony, Conducted by Leonard Bernstein: Season 1945–1946, original broadside. 1945. Titled in red and black, mounted on heavy card stock as issued. The broadside advertises “vital music old and new superbly performed under a stimulating young conductor at prices within reach of all” and noting F.H. LaGuardia as the president of the New York City Symphony. Framed. Image area, 14 ¾ x 19 ½”. Visible horizontal center fold line, small pale stain to upper image area, occasional tiny chips at corners or edges. A rare piece from Bernstein’s earliest days. Bernstein was appointed conductor of the New York Philharmonic on November 14, 1943. In 1945, he was appointed music director of the New York City Symphony making this broadside ONE OF THE EARLIEST ADVERTISEMENTS OF HIS WORK WITH THE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA that he would lead for the remainder of his life.
