LINDBERGH, Charles (1902–1974). Four Original Glass Plate Negatives and Positives of Charles Lindbergh at Lambert Field, [one with Charles Hornsby]. St. Louis: June 18, 1927. Images depict Lindbergh’s first visit to St. Louis since piloting his single-engine airplane, The Spirit of St. Louis, from New York to Paris on the first solo non-stop transatlantic flight on May 20-21, 1927. Lindbergh was greeted along an 8-mile parade of 37,000 people as the aviator was welcomed home. Later that day, Lindbergh was met at the Cardinals’ ballpark to a standing ovation as he raised the championship banner before the start of the Cardinals-Giants (New York) game. Pictured in one of the negatives is Lindbergh posing next to Rogers Hornsby (HOF); the former player-manager of the Cardinals that took the Cards to the World Series championship the year prior but was traded to the Giants in 1927 and who was also making his first appearance in St. Louis that day since the trade. Other images include Lindbergh shaking hands and posing with unidentified persons; one depicting Lindbergh standing in front of The Spirit of St. Louis at Lambert Field. Individually housed in original parchment envelopes. Each 4 x 5”. Fine examples of unrecorded photographs.
