WOODHOUSE, Henry (1884-1970). Henry Woodhouse Documentary and Photo Archive. 1904-1930’s. Massive accumulation in a carton, with over 425 vintage photographs of various airplanes, aviation pioneers and events, together with Woodhouse documents including MS entitled “The New Sport of Avietting,” (flying bicycles), 5 page unsigned affidavit in support of a lawsuit in which he describes his roles and association in establishing military aviation fields and pilot training, correspondence received by Woodhouse from Curtiss Flying Boat (signed and on letterhead), The Gyro Motor Company, the National Aerial Coast Patrol Commission, letters to and from the Aerial League of America to Rear Admiral Robert Peary, on letterhead and carbons, 1918 letter and hand illustrated 10 page MS from Columbia University professor on the subject of “animals as aeroplanes,” 3 issues of Flying Magazine 1914//16, NY Tribune Photographic History of the Great War, D. Napier and Sons, British aircraft manufacturer, with attached ”secret motor” photo, and others. Together with original check from the Aeronautic Library signed by Woodhouse and made payable to and endorsed by aviation pioneer Grover Cleveland Loening, annotated 1915 flyer titled “Committee of Training Camps for Balloon Operators to be established on Governor’s Island under Major General Leonard Wood, and other documents and annotations. The photographs, some of which are signed or bear descriptive text by Woodhouse include P. C. Millman (signed, with mailing envelope), aerial photo taken by pioneering aviation photographer R. Noble Estey, with one page manuscript letter, signed, early parachuting photographs including “Tiny Bradwick,” airplanes crashes, including annotated description, triplanes, biplanes, hydroplanes, gliders, bombers, monoplanes, photo negatives, 1918 4 motor Voisin, Bleriot, Monaco 1912 meet, Deperdussin, Sopwith, Dayton-Wright bomber, turning ground for new airfield in Chicago, welcome committee for Amundsen (signed), Langley giant biplane, Fokker trimotor (signed R.E.Byrd), Glenn Martin training California militia, fantasy San Diego skyline with hundreds of airplanes, 1909 Paris Aviation Exhibit, 4 and 5 wing experimental airplanes, Wright brothers’ shed and airplane, Ford and Fokker trimotors, Josephine Ford Arctic Expedition, Moscow-Berlin raid Russian aviators (1926), 1925 Junkers all metal airplane trimotor, parachuting related photos including 1914 Eiffel tower and airplane parachuting, zeppelin and early 20th c. airplane crashes, Capt. Lowell H. Smith, early aerial photographs, and many others, signed and unsigned. The more than 30 signatures of R. E. Byrd, Glenn Curtiss, A. S. Burleson, Roald Amundsen and others are unauthenticated. Ex Henry Woodhouse collection, noted American aviation pioneering author and forger. Signature(s) likely in Woodhouse’s hand.
