Harvard University Early Aviation Archive. 1916-17. Documentary and photographic archive relating to the creation of a squadron of aviators from Harvard University, which played a key role in the development of military aviation in this country. Mr. Henry Woodhouse, then member of the Board of Governors of the Aero-Club of America, was instrumental in the organization of the squadron, and this is his file from that time period, including photographs of the aviators at the Curtiss Aviation School in Buffalo, NY, telegrams and correspondence between Woodhouse and Roger Amory, various bulletins or forms, $500 cancelled check from the Aero-Club of America ($50 for each Harvard aviator), letters from Harvard Secretary to the Corporation Francis Hunnewell, letters from students interested in joining, including William H. Cheney who died while flying in WWI, two United States Senators TLSs, all in a thick file. An excellent record of military aviation in the United States in anticipation of the entry of this country into WWI. Good.
