Jack in the Box or The Learned Judge. Flein: Rüdiger Deutsch, ca. 2000. Deustch’s version of the Robert-Houdin/Okito effect in which a chosen card, placed in the drawer at the bottom of a handsomely lacquered box filled with dry tea leaves, is suddenly and instantly revealed by a Mandarin figure that springs from the box when the lid is re-opened. The tea has vanished, and in the figures hands is the spectator’s chosen card. Height (closed) 9”. Believed to be the only example made by Deustch.
