Chautauqua and Lyceum Magicians Brochure Collection. Fifteen examples, including many handsomely printed in color, and advertising the programs of many of the era’s most successful performers: Maro, Laurant, The Great Lee, Edwin Brush Kringsberg, James Kater Thompson (two different), Arthur Moose, C. Thomas Magrum, Irving, Lightner, Hal Merton (two different), and others. 1910s – 40s. 4tos, profusely illustrated with photographs, some being multi-page booklets with gatefold pages. Many reinforced with old cellotape. The primary means of advertising the performances of Chautauqua and Lyceum performers in the first three decades of the twentieth centuries were these elaborate “folders,” as they were often referred to. Later generations of performers used them to book shows in schools and other venues, but these purveyors of uplifting and “moral” entertainment paved the way for all those who followed. The “big three” performers in this field are represented here: Maro, Laurant, and Brush.
