Coughtry & Dougherty American Manufacture Playing Cards. [New York], ca. 1849-53. 48 of 52 (lacks AD, QS, JH, and 3C). One-way courts. Ace of Spades similar to Crehore, but with “Coughtry & Dougherty” imprint. See Hochman AD1e/f. Rare unrecorded deck from the partnership between Andrew Dougherty and the Coughtry brothers, produced approximately between 1849-53, and probably on the earlier side of that date range, given that the Ace of Spades is nearly identical to the Crehor Ace which Dougherty manufactured circa 1845 (see next lot). On this basis, this would presumptively be earlier than either of the two Coughtry & Dougherty decks in Hochman.
