Hoffmann, Professor (Angelo Lewis). Portrait of Professor Hoffmann, Inscribed and Signed. Dated Jan 1, 1914. Printed medallion bust portrait of the author of Modern Magic. 7 3/8 x 4 7/8”. Inscribed and signed in the lower portion: “Hearty good wishes to all members of the Magician’s Club. Louis Hoffmann.” Minor soiling to upper right. Hoffmann, a barrister by profession, is best remembered as author of many of the most important works in the modern canon of conjuring literature, starting with Modern Magic in 1876. The Magician’s Club, founded by Will Goldston in 1911, was chaired by President Harry Houdini for fifteen years, and disbanded in the late 1940s after Goldston’s death.
