Includes the author in handcuffs in 1951 (7 ½ x 4 ½”) after he was sentenced to six months in prison for “refusing to tell where the Communist party gets all its bail money” (original label on verso); the author testifying before the senate investigations subcommittee in 1953, refusing to say whether he is or has been a communist (9 ¼ x 6 ¾”); and Hammett with Lillian Hellman in the 1920s from “Dashiell Hammett: A Life” by Diane Johnson (Random House, 1983).
