Slapstick Spanker. Kalamazoo: The Henderson-Ames Co., ca. 1910. A classic piece of apparatus used in fraternal initiation rituals. A leather covered wooden spanker that can be loaded with a blank cartridge that fires upon impact. Length 25 ½”. Hallmarked plate “Manufactured by the Henderson-Ames Co. Kalamazoo MICH.” Paddle blown apart during use and repaired with metal brackets by previous owner. Original leather cushion and internal mechanism intact.
