The first line of the final stanza from “THE BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC”: “In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea”. [ALSO WITH:] an original cabinet card SIGNED BY HOWE. Together framed and matted, overall 406 x 330 mm. An important American poem that replaced “John Brown’s Body” as the best–known Civil War song.
