Circa 1920. 17 large format sepia tone photos, loose in corner mounts, each captioned in detail with lengthy manuscript descriptions on opposite rectos. Original black cloth album hand titled “Lancaster’s in the Gorge of the Columbia”. PRESENTATION ALBUM to Harry F. Atwood, author of Back to the Republic (Chicago, 1918) with a presentation inscription by Samuel G. Lancaster, owner of the resort. A wonderful collection of photographs showing artists’ and writers’ retreat cabins, landscape views along the River, and Nez Perce Indians with tipis in full traditional dress. “We have set apart a lovely area for the sole use of poets, artists, and writers of the best, where they can work in perfect quiet” (Samuel G. Lancaster).
