Half–titles, 13 aquatints and lithographs (several folding including frontispieces, one hand–colored plate) after Mrs. Ward, 2 folding maps including a large map of the geopolitical boundaries in Mexico, several in–text wood–engravings (some marginal spotting or browning). Period full calf ruled in gilt, early rebacking with original backstrip laid down, leather spine labels gilt, compartments blindstamped within gilt scrollwork framing, marbled endpapers (edges gently rubbed). FIRST EDTION of this firsthand account of the political and social climate of Mexico during Ward’s time as British chargé d’affaires in Mexico from 1825 to 1827 which Streeter calls a “classic book on Mexico – the rarity of accounts of Text in the 1820’s makes its inclusion worthwhile”.
