Half–titles, 10 engraved maps and plates, woodcut head– and tail–pieces (some marginal browning to plates). Contemporary tree calf, red sheepskin spine labels gilt, marbled endpapers (spines rebacked with original backstrips laid down, discrete repairs to extreme ends and joints). Provenance: Libreria Centro Literario (rubberstamps). FIRST EDITION of Pages' original account of his numerous voyages. In 1767, he received a commission to search for a northwest passage by way of the eastern coast of Asia. He first explored the Louisiana Territory, traveling up the Mississippi and traversing Texas and Mexico by horse although Henry Wagner doubted that “the author ever saw Texas”. He sailed with Kerguelen-Tremarac's unsuccessful second voyage in search of Terra Australis Incognita in 1773, and in 1776 he joined a Dutch whaling expedition.
